Atrial Fibrillation – opportunity to benefit from collaborative R&D project – September 2014
Pera International is supporting the following collaborative research project and is inviting member companies to engage and benefit from it:
Project Title – CATCH ME – Characterizing Atrial Fibrillation (AF) by Translating its Causes into Health Modifiers in the Elderly
There is a huge disconnect between the current understanding of the different mechanisms that can cause AF under experimental conditions on the one hand, and the unstructured clinical management of patients with AF on the other, which remain largely guided by AF duration, symptoms, and the opinion of the treating physician rather than by the causes of AF. AF is increasing annually and is a significant cause of sudden death. It is proposed that CATCH ME Project will:-
- Identify major health modifiers underlying Atrial Fibrillation in the elderly in Europe
- Develop clinical tools that have the potential of transforming the management of Atrial Fibrillation in individual patients
- Underpin and guide future personalized strategies to prevent and treat Atrial Fibrillation in Europe.
Interested Member companies have the opportunity to join the End-User Interest Group. They will be able to engage with the project team, to requests regular project updates, and to attend events and conferences disseminating the results.
There are currently 6 university hospital partners and other partners such as ESC, AFNET, Heri, Roche Professional Diagnostics, CAD-REF Registry and Parkrun UK involved in this project.
